ROSKILDE VIKING SHIP MUSEUM IN DENMARK
I‘ve been here twice and it never gets old. The Roskilde Viking Ship Museum exhibits the five 1000-year-old original ship finds from the Viking Age (the Skuldelev Ships, one through five) as well as a fleet of reconstructions. Several of these reconstructions and other Nordic boats are also available to sail in. One can try their hands at rowing, something I missed in my first visit, due to back issues. The second time around, there was a massive rain storm and there were no ships on the water.
There are also demonstrations of the shipwrights’ art, with utilization of the actual hand tools that were used to build the ships. On our second visit (in the rain), we were also treated to a demonstration by two Danish Viking reenactors. They were quite knowledgeable, while making it fun for onlookers.
