FYRKAT VIKING MUSEUM / RINGFORT IN DENMARK

Another location we visited was Fyrkat, a Viking-Age ring fortress and museum in Denmark. Fyrkat was built around 980CE by King Harald Bluetooth along with four other Viking ring fortresses, Fyrkat is located near the town of Hobro, in Northern Jutland. The Viking Museum at Fyrkat includes a reconstructed great farmstead, and a reconstructed nobleman’s estate. Construction on most of the building are of wattle and daub.

As an aside, Fyrkat hosts one of the most innovative children’s play areas that I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing what one can do with just wood and ropes.
